Colorful Mural at Kirklyn Playground

Wow! What a difference one person can make! Check out the pix! Way to go Daniel!

Before...

And after...

Some time ago I was contacted by Daniel who asked for my help working on his Eagle Scout project. He wanted to improve a neighborhood playground by planting some young trees, generally cleaning up, power-washing the graffiti off the big long wall and then doing a mural on it to hopefully discourage additional graffiti. I was flattered that he was impressed enough with my work to ask for my help. And I was delighted to have the chance to help such a worthy cause. Because of him, many of us who helped can be proud to know that we had a hand in this park’s immeasurable improvement. The pictures say it all! What a fine job he did!

Here are some more "before" shots:

And "after"

That's a lot of green!

Here are some photos of the process...

1-Laying out the color scheme

Mixing the tertiary colors

3- Counting the tiles to find the center

(Yes, kids, you even use math in art!)

The fun begins...

It’s getting brighter every minute!

One last graffiti... (a visit from the kool-aid man)

OK, OK, one more!

The work sure goes fast with lots of help!

Planning the lettering

And then, ...here’s what really gets me...

After a long hard day, the work is done and the scouts not only finished and cleaned up, they also picked up the pile of trash that had been on the middle of the basketball court. I guess a trash can got knocked down and it spilled. ... Those scouts have a great code of leaving the place better than you found it. Don’t you wish everyone did that?

WAY TO GO, DANIEL! Great job!

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this.

I wish you the best of luck in all you do!!
