Salus University Hosts ARTsisters Visionary Exhibition

ARTsisters' latest Art exhibit is at Salus University in Elkins Park.

"Prussian Rose Whispers"

Entitled "Visionary" this exhibition will be hanging until November 9th 2016 in the Hafter Student Center. 

An opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 9 from 1-3pm at the Hafter Student Center, located at 50 Breyer Drive in Elkins Park, PA.

 There will be treats for the tongue (refreshments) and treats for the eyes (our art!)

The image above is a mixed media piece. First a cyanotype photogram was created then I applied watercolors to it.
Another piece in the show is the little red rose bud in front of a stone wall background. (Below left)
These two are for sale and are part of the group show.

Rosebud Study

A third piece, a little rose study, (below right) is a donated original watercolor which is among the pieces which will be sold at their Oct 29th auction to benefit the charity ""Looking Out For Kids" which helps to provide eye care and glasses to kids who need but cannot afford them. $100 wins it! Note: one little correction on the article...
Near the end of the article when he gives the details of the reception as Sunday, Dec 5th from 1 till 5pm, the writer states that this reception is for part TWO of the exhibit, when in actuality, this will be part ONE.

Although I am an ARTsister, I do not have work in this show. I plan to be a part of the part two of the show, exhibiting at a later time.(There are too many of us to exhibit in this space at once.)


At any rate, I hope to be able to overcome some challenges to allow me to get to the reception to support my fellow ARTsisters, as they always try to support me. (It's what we do.)

ARTsisters: Our Name in Lights!

Some of you may know that I am a member of a group of women artists who call themselves ARTsisters. We support each other in our art endeavors, as well as do a variety of things to help people in our community. Well, wasn't it cool that not only PECO put our name in lights, but that Philadelphia was celebrating the event with fireworks! Watch!

Linda Dubin Garfield Exhibits New Prints at Penn Wynne Library; now thru January28, 09

I am so sorry I didn't get the chance to alert you sooner about the artist's reception which was December 11th. But the good news is, the art exhibit is ongoing until January 28th, 2009. New artwork by my ARTsister friend Linda Dubin Garfield is on display at the Penn Wynne Library. Their address is:

Now, back to my Christmas card designing.... (aghhh! it's almost mailing time and I'm still trying to create it! Oh well, frantic activity sometimes begets great works.)

"The Gift Of Art" at Viking Culinary Arts Center, Bryn Mawr, PA

For the past couple days I've been busy matting and framing three pieces for the ARTsisters group exhibit at Viking Culinary Arts Center . It was my first time using my new Logan mat cutter (Model 301-s Compact) and it took quite awhile for me to learn how to properly make triple layer mats.
I had to miss a town meeting regarding improved recycling that I had wanted to attend, and still, I was up until 2:30 AM Monday evening. But I finally completed my task and just about one hour before hanging deadline on Tuesday, I was finally finished and pleased with the results.
But it sure took awhile for me to get the hang of it. Partly, it just takes practice. I found that the more I practiced using the two blades (one for straight cuts and one for beveled edges), the better and smoother I cut. After having used a little portable cutter that cuts along your hand-held T-square, this was a great improvement!

If you're an artist who is considering buying a mat cutter, I'd recommend this model, although there was one very important imperfection with this one. I found that the measurement guide was off by one-sixteenth of an inch. That led to some frustrating moments and wasted boards. I kept remeasuring things, thinking it was a math mistake on my part. I finally figured it out that it was simply that the sticker with the measurement increments printed on it must have been adhered to the machine in the wrong position. So I would just add 1/16" when cutting each border.

Since it was a kind of pricey item, (in the $100 range) that seems to be a pretty important mistake. I hope that the Logan company caught it before too many were produced. Then again, how would they know about it unless we users speak up about it! I think I'll contact them about it.
