The weather is turning cooler. Maybe you love it; maybe you hate it! I absolutely love it, but even if you don't, you can dream of the warm beach days of summer...

This week we are doing seascapes in our Michaels [beginner] painting workshops!
There is a scene that hasn't been done for quite some time, that I plan to teach. It shows sand dunes, a beach fence, and a relatively calm ocean (not the rocky waves-crashing scene that many of my students have done before!)
This one has a dynamic composition, which makes use of diagonals and overlap to create depth. Come join us! (It may be quite some time before I offer this scene again as a lesson plan.)

Tip: if you plan to come and you have some smaller [than #2 Round] brushes, they may come in handy when doing the fences and sea grasses).

If you are not yet registered but would like to attend class, you can email me or text me 610-804-2888 so I know you will be there. This way, I will make sure to have enough lesson plans for everyone.
If you come 15 minutes early, you should have time to register and purchase any needed supplies before class

November's Workshop Schedule

Last night I finished a small acrylic painting on board. A bunch of trees standing tall on a hillside. So I call it Hillside Trees. A detail of it is shown here.
Detail: "Hillside Trees" Acrylic on board 6 1/4 x 8 3/8" (C) 2011 Jeanne Guerin-Daley

These days I have been staying very busy. Doing some babysitting, painting, house decluttering, cleaning, photographing beautiful fall colors, enjoying this crisp Fall air, and the usual (cooking dinner, do the household paperwork, also trying to work out some problems with a faux job,...)

The stuff of my life.

I hope you, my reader, are faring well.

My Grumbacher painting class schedule for November up until Thanksgiving is set. I don't have it up on Grumbacher's site yet, but will very soon.
I did update the schedule on this blog.

Due to popuIar demand, I have planned for more floral classes, and less still life classes. Tomorrow (Sunday, 10-23-11) will be a floral.

This Week's Painting Subject: "Echinaceas in a Purple Vase"

"Echinaceas in a Purple Vase" 12x9" Acrylic

Come paint with me!

Today's blog update:
"Echinaceas in a Purple Vase" is the image we will be painting this coming week at my floral acrylic painting workshops. In the class, I walk the beginner student through the process of using a photograph for reference, and creating a finished painting.

In this lesson, a dark background color is mixed on the palette, then applied to the canvas. The elements are then added: flower blossoms, stems, leaves and vase, bit by bit, until a final painting is achieved.

Come paint with us!

This week's Painting Workshop: Still Life, Not Floral!

I got my signals crossed this week. I'd told some of my painting students that we would be painting Echinaceas in a Vase this week, but I made a mistake! According to Michaels/Grumbacher schedules, this week's painting workshop is supposed to be "Still Life."
I have sent those students apologetic and corrected emails.

I do need to plan on painting the correct curriculum, since students may have bought the additional colors for that class. So, since I just now caught my mistake, I have one day to figure out what we will paint tomorrow (Wed) and Sunday!

Below are some options.

Do you have a preference?
Let me know!

I really thought I was on top of things this week, too! I was just about to post a floral image on my Facebook page when I caught my mix-up. If you would like to see what kinds of things I post there, you can stop in by clicking this link:

Should You Work for Free?

Comic characters: Painter

I ran across a chart today while online. Created by Jessica Hische, it helps the artist decide whether or not he or she should work for free when asked. I got a chuckle out of it. Maybe you will too.
