Gardening Day
Played in the dirt yesterday.
Weeding and planting in the vegetable garden mostly.
I must have pulled over a thousand little baby morning glories! They are beautiful, but a bit too prolific in the veggie garden!
I had tried to grow pepper plants from seed and when nothing came up but weeds, it was time to search for a place that was still selling them (getting a bit late in the season.)
Taddeo's came through for me! I bought a few hot peppers and two kinds of sweet bell peppers, one green and one is purple! That should make for some colorful salsa, to be sure!
I bought three cantelope plants to try. (We've never grown them before.)
We are also growing tomatoes, kale, lettuce, spinach, garlic, cukes, snow peas, and several varieties of beans. Oh, and lots more weeds too!
Did you know about purslane? This is a weed that grows freely around here. But I found that it is edible PLUS very good for you. Lots of beta carotene, and omega 3 fatty acids... My kids think I'm a nut, but I harvest away and keep trying new ways to eat it. A quick saute with olive oil, garlic, some fresh mint and lemon balm was tasty. More info here:

Landscape Class at Michaels This Week
This week at Michaels: Landscape, I'm teaching students how to paint a new image from Grumbacher.
Pic here on the blog.
Michaels Instructor Karolyn Hawthorne created this design. Having been down South and seen Spanish Moss hanging off trees, I can relate to this image. Using her lesson plan, I painted this one. Won't you join me?
Wednesday evening at 6:30pm (King of Prussia), Thursday evening at 6:30pm (Conshohocken) and maybe we can add a class on the weekend. I will find out tomorrow (Wednesday). If you'd like to be added to my list of students that get the latest updates, the easiest way is to click the link on my website that says "Contact Jeanne" or just click here.

Selling Art on eBay
Attention:
Fellow artists out there who may have considered/are considering using eBay as an outlet for art sales... I urge you to read the article which I just read about the subject. (Actually, come to think about it, reading the article might provide some insight in selling items OTHER THAN art, as well.)
I found it interesting and informative. I am currently reorganizing and reconsidering which areas to focus on, because I currently have a little too many things on my plate. Selling on eBay just might become one of my venues. . .
Happy Reading...

Grad Time's Over
Such a busy time of year!
This past week was filled with several events involving my high school graduate (awards ceremony, baccalaureate Mass, Grad ceremony, party,..)
Art-making time got pushed out of the way for a bit, I'm getting back on track now.
One concept that has been on my mind has been one of "focus."
I don't know if I have a bit of ADHD, or am just scatterbrained,... but I often jump from one activity to another, feeling I need to do so, in order to keep my activities afloat. Or it might be that I want to grab every ounce I can out of this thing we call "Life" and I try not to waste one moment doing something worthwhile. There is so much that can be done!
My art journey consists of several different roads, and I sometimes wonder how I can travel them all sufficiently.
I teach painting classes at Michaels Arts & Crafts; I paint custom murals for folks who want them.
I just recently began a green project re-purposing cedar shingles into hand-painted signs.
I also paint portraits of people's pets. I have done some consulting work, for artists who need a little help getting their computer to work for them. And then there's those special projects which I lump into a "miscellaneous" category: I recently hand-lettered a quote on a homeowner's wall, painted a bookcase for a fundraiser. I have taught kids about making cyanotypes. Which of my readers remembers "Bahama Llama"?
My art life has been a real cornucopia, and lately I have been considering if I should focus my efforts a little more; narrow down my activities a bit in order to do a more proper job doing what I do.
Have you any thoughts? Any votes for what I should keep? Feedback is always welcomed on this blog. Just post a comment below.
(Now, I must get back to finishing Becky's dog portrait.)

Lilies in a Vase Painting
Tonight there were seven painting-lovers in the classroom of the King of Prussia Michaels store classroom.
Seven! I think that' a record for me.
.
Here's the kicker. I was worried we may not finish on time. The image we painted was of two yellow lilies in a white vase with a subtly-blended background.
There were a lot of techniques to be taught in the one lesson, and quite a lot of detailing to finish the painting. I had done the painting this morning (to refresh my memory: I hadn't painted that image in a month or more) and I did manage to finish it in less than two hours, but just barely! I was worried we'd run out of time,... again! But no, actually, we did pretty good. Only ran a few minutes over. And all the results were wonderful! Everyone has their own unique style. The magic of art!
Looks like next week for the seascape, we'll be painting that wonderful ocean scene where the waves hit against shore rocks and create a white spray around them.
I never tire of painting this one. I used one of my mom's paintings as a reference for it, so it is close to my heart. (It has been several years since she passed and I still miss her terribly! And such a wonderful painter she became!) Sometimes we paint it with a simple blue sky with a couple clouds, as you see here, sometimes with sunset colors,...
If you think you'd like to join us for that one, please click on the link above, the one for Painting Workshops. There you will find all the details. You can also just call me 610-804-2888
BTW,
I am happy to say that with Michaels' recent class pricing change, the workshop is VERY affordable! They dropped the price considerably!
I'm thinking to maybe add a Saturday morning class for the summer. Any takers? Let me know if there's interest. So far, I have one definite Yes!
